Me and my kids were invited to an early screening of Finding Dory and we loved it. Loved it to a huge smile with misty eyes.
While I loved Finding Nemo there is something very special about this new movie about the adventures of the amnesiac Dory.
No, you won’t be mesmerized by the beauty of the tropical seas and coral riffs. Most of the action happens around the Monterey Aquarium Research Institute in Monterey, California. But Dory will swim around your heart and make you forget that you are watching a movie that even a 2 year-old can enjoy. It’s that good.
When talking about the movie, my kids went with the obvious: It’s about family and finding your way home. Yes, Finding Dory is about that, and the unbreakable bond between parents and their children. 
However, in my case, it hit a powerful note close to home. I’ve come to realize – years well into my adulthood- that I have a processing disability and some form of dyslexia. I can not follow a map even if my life depended on it, and before my friend the GPS told me which way to go, it wasn’t weird to find me crying while at the wheel wondering if I had enough gas to keep driving until I recognize something.
Dory reminded me how we all have our own set of tools to find our way, even if some of us lack the obvious ones and have to relay on our wit and the help of others to do it.
I encourage you to see Finding Dory this weekend, whether you have a kid or not. But I urge you to do if you have a child that is always getting lost, misplaces everything, it’s forgetful and has trouble following directions. Dory will teach him or her, that there is always another way to do things.
Mis hijos y yo fuimos invitados a ver Finding Dory (Buscando a Dory) y nos encantó. Nos gustó tanto que salimos del cine con una sonrisota y los ojos aguados.
Aunque Finding Nemo siempre tendrá un lugar en mi corazón, hay algo muy especial sobre esta nueva película sobre las aventuras de la amnésica Dory.
No, no se te va a abrir la boca con la belleza animada de los océanos. La mayor parte de la accion pasa alrededor del Monterey Aquarium Research Institute en Monterey, California, pero Dory va a nadar en tu corazón y te hará olvidar que es una película apta para cualquier persona mayor de dos años. Es así de buena.
Como siempre, al salir del cine les pregunté a mis hijos cuál era para ellos el tema de la película. Ambos coincidieron en que se trataba de una historia sobre la importancia de la familia y sobre la importancia de encontrar el regreso a casa. Sí, Finding Dory es sobre eso y sobre el vínculo inquebrantable entre padres e hijos.
Sin embargo, Dory tocó en mí algo más fuerte en mi historia personal. Ya de adulta me di cuenta de que tengo dificultades de procesamiento y alguna forma de dislexia. No soy capaz de leer un mapa sin gran esfuerzo y, antes de tener acceso a la milagrosa tecnología del GPS, no era raro verme llorando en alguna esquina rogando que la gasolina me alcanzara para llegar a algún sitio que pudiese reconocer.
Como en el caso de Dory, pedirle ayuda a alguien era caso perdido a menos que anotara las instrucciones. Segundos después las izquierdas y derechas se habían enredado en mi cabeza.
Dory me recordó como todos tenemos diferentes herramientas para alcanzar la meta. Si algo se te hace difícil, siempre hay otra manera de lograrlo. Para llegar a algún sitio no todo el mundo tiene que usar el mismo camino o la misma forma de transporte.
Te recomiendo que vayas al cine a ver Finding Dory, tengas o no un niño al que acompañar. Pero conoces a algún chiquito que siempre se pierde, al que se le extravía todo, que es olvidadizo y se enreda con las instrucciones TIENES que llevarlo o llevarla. ¡De verdad!
Dory le va a ayudar en la vida, en serio.
